What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness can be defined as the state or quality of being mindful or aware of something. In our work, we use mindfulness to tune into our inner feelings and sensations within our body and whole being as we move. This is an essential element within our practice as it allows each person to monitor their own well-being; this can be noticing range and or limitations within joints or muscles, sensations of oxygen circulation and blood flow, feelings of well-being or discomfort that are generated through movement, or sometimes awareness of personal triggers that create challenges within the work. At The Movement Education Studio, we approach all movement and mindfulness from a trauma-sensitive perspective, encouraging students to address any discomfort directly with the teacher to help them receive the best possible outcomes from their practice.
